Quartz engineered for daily life

Your countertops see daily use. Here's what makes the difference between good and great.

Countertop Materials

Different materials offer different aesthetics, durability, and maintenance requirements.

Quartz

(Engineered Stone)

Engineered stone made from natural quartz crystals bound with resins. Consistent appearance, non-porous, and low maintenance.

Best For

  • Daily durability
  • Low maintenance
  • Consistent appearance
  • Stain resistance

Considerations

  • Various quality levels available
  • Edge profiles affect cost
  • Seams on large runs
  • Heat protection recommended

Granite

(Natural Stone)

Natural stone quarried from the earth. Each slab is unique with natural variations in color and pattern.

Best For

  • Unique natural appearance
  • Heat resistance
  • Traditional elegance
  • One-of-a-kind look

Considerations

  • Requires periodic sealing
  • Natural variations in slabs
  • Some patterns show etching
  • Heavy (requires adequate support)

Solid Surface

(Corian)

Acrylic-based material that can be molded and joined with no visible seams. Scratches can be sanded out.

Best For

  • No visible seams
  • Integrated sinks
  • Repairable surface
  • Budget-friendly option

Considerations

  • Less heat resistant
  • Can scratch easier
  • Various color options
  • Good for bath vanities

Laminate

(Formica)

Plastic laminate over particleboard or MDF core. Most budget-friendly option with many pattern choices.

Best For

  • Budget projects
  • Rental properties
  • Wide pattern selection
  • Easy replacement

Considerations

  • Less durable than stone
  • Cannot be repaired easily
  • Visible seams
  • Not recommended for premium homes

Common Questions

What is Level 3 quartz?

Quartz is sold in quality 'levels' based on pattern complexity, color, and manufacturer. Level 3 offers premium patterns and colors, not basic white or simple designs. You'll have attractive options to choose from without paying for exotic selections.

Can I upgrade to granite?

Yes. If you prefer natural granite over engineered quartz, we can price the upgrade. Keep in mind granite requires periodic sealing and has natural variations that some people love and others find challenging.

What about the kitchen island?

Islands are included in the countertop scope. If you want a different material or waterfall edge on the island, let us know and we'll price it accordingly.

Do you install the sink?

Yes. Undermount sink installation is included with countertop installation. We coordinate with the plumber to reconnect the plumbing after the countertops are set.

Care & Maintenance

Keep your stone looking new

Six routines that determine whether your counters look great in year ten the same way they did in year one.

Daily wipe-down

Daily wipe-down

Dust with a soft microfiber. For routine cleaning, spray water or a mild dish-soap solution and wipe with a damp cloth. Dry with a soft towel.

Wipe spills immediately

Wipe spills immediately

Acidic foods and drinks (tomato, citrus, wine, coffee, vinegar) can etch marble and dolomite. Clean them up right away.

Especially for Marble + Dolomite

Use protection

Use protection

Coasters, placemats, trivets, and cutting boards prevent the three things that age a counter fastest: stains, heat marks, and scratches.

Choose the right cleaner

Choose the right cleaner

Use a pH-neutral stone cleaner or mild dish soap. Never use vinegar, bleach, lemon, ammonia, or abrasive scrubs. They strip sealer and dull the surface.

Treat stains carefully

Treat stains carefully

For oily stains or other set-in spots on granite, talk to your fabricator before applying anything. The wrong remover can etch the stone permanently.

Especially for Granite

Reseal when needed

Reseal when needed

Apply sealer on the schedule your fabricator recommends. Quick test: splash water on the counter. If it stops beading and starts soaking in, it's time to reseal.

Material-specific notes

Marble & Dolomite
Avoid acids; use trivets for hot pans.
Quartzite & Granite
Durable, but still wipe spills promptly and reseal on your fabricator's schedule.
Engineered Quartz
Very hard, but not heat-proof. Never put a hot pan straight from the stove onto quartz.

When in doubt, ask your fabricator for product-specific recommendations.
