Roofing Systems
The hurricane benchmark.
Standing seam and 5V crimp, engineered for the Florida coast.
Up to 180 mph uplift · 50+ year lifespan · top-tier insurance credit
At a glance
Metal is the roof we install when wind performance and lifespan come first. We ship three product lines, each with the right rib, pan, and finish for Florida already locked in: Standard 5V in Union Corrugating steel, Standing Seam in Union steel, and Standing Seam in PAC-CLAD aluminum for coastal lots. Every profile carries Florida Product Approval and Miami-Dade NOA documentation for HVHZ installation.

Why this roof
The performance and code-backed reasons it earns its place in Southwest Florida.
HVHZ-rated in every profile
5V Crimp and Standing Seam both carry Florida Product Approval and Miami-Dade NOA documentation for HVHZ installation. Design pressures run 170 mph on 5V and upwards of 180 mph on mechanical double-lock with proper clip spacing.
Top-tier insurance credit
Metal roof covering earns the maximum roof-covering credit on OIR Form 1802 and qualifies as a FORTIFIED Roof component. Upgrading to mechanical double-lock with sealed decking is eligible for FORTIFIED Gold, which Florida carriers translate directly into stacked wind-mitigation credits.
Coastal-proof substrate option
PAC-CLAD aluminum (.032 or .040) resists the salt-air corrosion that degrades steel near barrier islands. Union Galvalume steel remains the standard substrate on inland lots.
PAC-CLAD 35-year finish warranty
PAC-CLAD Kynar 500 / Hylar 5000 aluminum carries a 35-year non-prorated finish warranty against chipping, chalking, peeling, and fading per the PAC-CLAD color availability chart.
Cool Roof compliant colors
All Union Signature 200 and 300 colors are Cool Roof compliant through the CRRC-1 Program per the Union color chart. PAC-CLAD Kynar 500 colors publish SRI values on PAC-CLAD's chart.
Solar-ready without penetrations
Standing seams accept S-5! style clamp-on mounts, so solar PV or a Powerwall grid-tied array attaches without a single hole through the roof. That preserves both the warranty and the waterproofing.
Best for
- Coastal homes on Sanibel, Captiva, Marco Island, and barrier-island Cape Coral canal lots where salt air is constant (Standing Seam aluminum).
- Old Florida, Cracker, and farmhouse architecture where the V-crimp profile is the design intent (Standard 5V).
- Homeowners planning rooftop solar now or within ten years, where the clamp-on mounting alone justifies standing seam.
- Forever homes priced on 50-year cost, not 20-year cost.
Things to know
- •5V Crimp uses exposed neoprene-washer fasteners. Budget for re-torque or replacement every 15 to 20 years. Standing Seam hides the clips and eliminates that service item.
- •Panel runs are fabricated to length, so a full replacement after major impact damage is a multi-week lead-time job, not a same-week repair.
- •Oil canning (slight waviness in flat panel areas) is a cosmetic characteristic of flat-pan standing seam, not a defect. A rib spacing of 1.5 inches or more mitigates it.
Three product lines
One per real material path. Each ships with Florida specs locked in.

Standard 5V

Exposed-fastener V-panel, Signature 200 SMP finish. 170 mph design pressure. The classic Florida panel.

Standing Seam (Standard)
Union Corrugating · Galvalume steel
Concealed-fastener snap-lock. Signature 200 SMP or Signature 300 PVDF. Striated pan, 1.5 inch rib.

Standing Seam (Aluminum)
PAC-CLAD · aluminum
Salt-air-proof aluminum, Kynar 500 PVDF, 35-year non-prorated finish warranty. The coastal default.

Common questions
Steel or aluminum, which substrate do I need?
Aluminum (PAC-CLAD Kynar 500) is the right call within about a mile of saltwater because it will not rust. Galvalume steel (Union Corrugating Signature 200 or 300) is the inland default and the more cost-effective of the two. We confirm the right substrate against your specific lot during design.
Will a metal roof lower my insurance?
Metal earns the maximum roof-covering credit on the OIR Form 1802 wind-mitigation inspection, and it stacks with secondary water resistance and enhanced roof-to-wall straps. Actual premium savings vary by carrier and location, so we recommend pricing scenarios with your agent before deciding.
Is metal noisy in the rain?
Not on a finished home. Metal is installed over solid decking and underlayment, with insulation and a ceiling beneath it. The drum-on-a-barn sound people remember comes from metal over open purlins, which is not how we build a residential roof.
Can I add solar to a standing seam roof later?
Yes, and this is one of metal's biggest advantages. Standing seams accept S-5! clamp-on mounts, so a future solar array or Powerwall grid-tie attaches without a single penetration through the roof. The waterproofing and warranty stay intact.
