Common questions.
How many Powerwalls do I need?
It depends on what you want to back up. One Powerwall 3 covers essentials and can start a 4 to 5-ton AC compressor. For whole-home backup including AC and a pool pump through a multi-day outage, most Southwest Florida homes run 2 to 4 units. We size it to your actual critical loads, not a sales quota.
Do I need solar to use a Powerwall?
No. A Powerwall can charge from the grid for backup and time-of-use savings on its own. Paired with solar, it also stores your daytime production for use at night, and recharges itself each day during an extended outage. Powerwall 3 has an integrated solar inverter, so it pairs cleanly with a new solar array or Solar Roof.
Will it really run my whole house in a hurricane?
With enough capacity, yes. Powerwall transitions to battery power automatically in about 25 milliseconds, and Storm Watch tops the battery to full before forecasted weather. Sized correctly and paired with solar, your home keeps running and recharges from the sun each day while neighbors wait on the grid.
